Consider this a rant - just an fyi before you read the rest.
I'm sorry but personal calls at the office are fine. Shoot, I could care less. What I do care though is when there is an actual business call and my lovely "coworkers" can't find time to get off their long-winded conversation to pick up the other line.
But wait, could it be a family emergency? So, I hustle over to their cubicle and try to throw up the "line 4 is for your" sign only to hear, "No, I missed the ending - your KIDDING! No Way!"
This goes on for 30 seconds as I'm throwing up four fingers and trying to get them to acknowledge and when they do they nod.
What the heck does that mean? A "nod"? Okay, so know you are aware of the other line but could care less because your discussing the newest movie coming out and debating if its worth seeing this weekend.
GIVE ME A BREAK!
Another 30 seconds pass and by now the 'individual' has been on hold for over 2 minutes.
*I didn't say I went 'right over' to my coworker to tell them about their call ;-) *
Nonetheless, I reluctantly get back on line 4 to let the person know that they are still on the other line. Of course I get the person who doesn't want to go in their voicemail OR leave me a message.
GREAT!
So, on hold they go again. I go over to the coworkers desk AGAIN to tell them line four is still holding for them. They roll their eyes. WHAT! Seriously? You are rolling your eyes because you have to do your job?
Now, I'm not 100% workaholic individual but I'm not a 100% slacker either. There's a line there and I'm the type of person who likes to get the job done and then get on the phone with a friend or gets off immediately if I receive a new call. My friends and family know this. I am respected for this because I can be counted on.
Seriously, my coworker needs to get some business etiquette and learn to just end their "important" conversation and call them back later.
